How to fit roman blinds
When measuring for your roman blinds you will have chosen whether the blind is to be fitted inside or outside of the window recess. The method of fitting your roman blind does change depending on where the blind is to be installed, so please follow the relevant instructions below.
Child safety
There are two types of child safety devices supplied with a blind; a chain resistant that fits to the wall and a breakaway cog at the headrail. The version sent to you will be determined by the fixing height you have entered at time of order.
If your blind is to be installed at 3 metres or more above floor level, it will be supplied with a child restraint that you must install to comply with Child Safety Regulations. The retainer should be secured to the wall, tight enough to keep the chain taut while still allowing movement to smoothly raise and lower the blind.
If the fixing height it lower than 3 metres, the safety device provided will be a breakaway cog. This cog pulls away from the headrail under excessive force, therefore releasing the chain. If the cog does break away from the headrail, start by wrapping the chain around the cog. Ensure that the small metal stud on the cog is facing to the end of the blind before then firmly inserting the chain and cog back into the headrail until it snaps into place. The blind will then operate as usual.
Fitting the brackets – inside the recess
Upon delivery, the brackets will be attached to the headrail of your blind. Lift the headrail up and position it where you want it to be fixed.
Before installing the blind, make sure you know where in the recess to position the brackets so as to avoid any window handles and stays, ensuring a clean drop for the blind. If required, the brackets can also be face fixed, which is usually useful if the face is wood and the top is plaster.
Start by ensuring that the 2 outermost brackets are 3cm away from the end of the rail. All other brackets should then be spread out evenly along the rail. With all bracket positions planned (and any handles or protrusions considered), you can then draw a straight drilling guide line to help you to ensure that the brackets are aligned at installation. If you are fitting the blind to the ceiling of the recess, screw through the holes in the top of the bracket.
When the brackets are secured, you can then install the headrail. Simply lift the headrail onto the underside of the lever lock brackets and clip into place. Ensure that the Velcro side of the headrail is facing you when fitting.
If your blind has a fixing height of 3 metres or more, you will need to finish the installation by attaching the chain retainer to the wall, in accordance with Child Safety Regulations.
Warning: Child Safety
Young children can be strangled by loops in pull cords, chains, tapes and inner cords that operate the product.
To avoid strangulation and entanglement, keep cords out of reach of children.
Cords may become wrapped around a child’s neck.
Move beds, cots and furniture away from window cords.
Do not tie cords together.
Make sure cords do not twist and create a loop.
If your product is supplied with a chain retaining device, you must install it.
Fitting the brackets – outside the recess
Upon delivery, the brackets will be attached to the headrail of your blind. Lift the headrail up and position it where you want it to be fixed.
Start by ensuring that the 2 outermost brackets are 3cm away from the end of the rail. All other brackets should then be spread out evenly along the rail. Position the brackets with the shorter return side against the wall, facing downward. With all bracket positions planned, you can then draw a straight drilling guide line to help you to ensure that the brackets are aligned at installation.
